News, commentary, and training tips for the dog agility enthusiast.
Welcome to the BDA Weekly! We took last week off for Thanksgiving and a sickening amount of pie, but we’re back and getting ready for Christmas. I’m going to watch so many movies in the next 4 weeks…
Dropping Bars After Front Crosses?
When you do a front cross, dogs are more likely to drop the bar after the front cross when the handler blocks their view of the next obstacle, uncovering it at the last possible tenth of a second. When a handler uses a rear cross, the dog can see the jump very well, even as they are landing after the previous jump. I’ll opt for the rear in tight spaces or on turns where I can’t quickly move out of the dog’s way. Take a look at the video below.
AKC/USA European Open Team Tryouts
That’s happening this weekend and for the third year in a row, I won’t be there. I broke my toe and had surgery the first time, and my dog was pregnant the second time, and this time she’s retired from international jump heights. It’s like we missed our window, but sometimes that happens. Good luck to everyone competing in Latrobe, Pennsylvania! For spectators, there will be a free livestream and live results from the event.
‘Tis the Season for Movies
I’ve already seen Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok, Daddy’s Home 2, Murder on the Orient Express, and a Bad Moms Christmas. The kids saw Coco and enjoyed it. What’s next?
Must see opening weekend:
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Must See:
Ferdinand
Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle
Pitch Perfect 3
Maybe See:
The Greatest Showman
Wonder
Never See:
Father Figures
