This week, I worked my youngster on this nice little practice sequence. The layout gave me the chance to work on several different skills and test Venture’s understanding with contrasting sequences. The weaves were set up for other dogs and could be incorporated into the sequences as well, but my young dog is still working on 2×2’s. Also note that I dropped the height to 16″ so that we could concentrate on the handling on this hot summer day.
Sequences 1 and 2 show my dog the contrast between taking Jump #3 from the front versus the back side. In addition, Sequence 2 requires a choice on my part for which wing to wrap.
Sequences 3 and 4 show my dog the contrast between the two possible tunnel entrances and provide different angles for Jumps #3 and #4.
Sequence 5 shows my dog the contrast between driving the line after Jump #3 (as we did in Sequences #1-#4) and wrapping back to the tunnel. We use a serpentine cue coming out of the tunnel to help the dog make the turn to Jump #5.
