February 26, 2025 Wednesday Wrap Up (Nancy Gyes Retires, EOTT This Weekend, The Recruit)

Nancy Gyes Retires

This past Friday, we released a very special podcast episode featuring Nancy Gyes, reflecting on her incredible journey in agility as she steps away from her role as Team USA Agility World Championship Coach after nearly 30 years of involvement with the team.

Nancy shares her perspective on how international competition has evolved since she competed on the very first AKC/USA World Team in 1996. She talks about how she transitioned from competitor to coach, the challenges and triumphs along the way, and how the agility scene has changed over the years. We also dive into some of the most talked-about topics in agility, including how team selections are made, fairness and transparency in the process, and what the U.S. still needs to do to stay competitive on the world stage. Plus, she gives us a glimpse into what’s next for her!

EOTT This Weekend

Sarah here! This weekend, 43 small, 54 medium, 33 intermediate, and 105 large dogs will head to Latrobe, Pennsylvania, for the 2025 European Open Team Tryouts. In each height category, three dogs will earn an automatic spot on the team based on their performance, with the remaining 20 team spots selected by the EO Team Management panel.

This prestigious event draws the best handlers in the country, including talented teams with mixed-breed dogs that are ineligible for the Agility World Championship but can compete at the European Open.

4LeggedFlix will be on-site providing a free livestream, giving you the chance to watch some of the top dogs in the United States take on challenging international courses—please consider donating if you’re able to support their coverage.

We wish all competitors the best of luck this weekend!

The Recruit

With The Recruit season 2 just dropping, Sarah and I are rewatching season 1 to get back into the flow. This series blends political intrigue with humor seamlessly, making the complex and high-stakes world of the CIA relatable. The story follows Owen Hendricks, a young, charismatic lawyer fresh out of law school who lands a job at the CIA.

One of the coolest aspects of the show is how it offers a lawyer’s perspective on CIA operations. The CIA attorneys serve as the bridge between leadership and field operations, constantly plugging holes and preventing crises caused by rogue agents and clandestine groups with too much autonomy.

Unlike darker spycraft shows like Lioness or Black Doves, where everyone is morally gray, The Recruit adds in some clear heroes to root for. The humor isn’t forced, the political drama keeps you guessing, and by the end of each episode, you’ll not only be entertained but also left with a newfound appreciation for the unsung role attorneys play in keeping the whole operation together.

As usual, send any comments or questions to team@baddogagility.com, but no season 2 spoilers for The Recruit please!

Happy Training,
