February 7th, 2024 Wednesday Wrap Up (Agility Seminars, Bend Over or Stand Tall, Super Bowl Predictions, Groundhog Day)

Agility Seminars
In our latest podcast episode, we tackle a question from a Wednesday Wrap Up reader about the optimal approach to dog agility seminars: is it more advantageous to develop a relationship with one favorite instructor or to gain varied perspectives from attending seminars with different top instructors, considering the significant investment required? Answering this question leads us into a broader conversation about the evolution of dog agility seminars, and much more. Check out BDA #332: Agility Seminars! CLICK HERE TO LISTEN!

Do You Bend Over or Stand Tall On Course?
I usually stand tall but there are definitely moments where I hunch over a little bit. As part of the NFL Dog Plays of the Year, which aired on ESPN this past week, Jennifer Crank coached former NFL player Santana Moss to run dog agility with her sheltie, Bee. Without any dog agility background, Santana instinctively ran bent over to be closer to Bee. Click below to see Jennifer, Santana, and Bee in action!

Super Bowl Commercials Sneak Peak
“In order to remember something, you’ve got to forget something else!” says Uber Eats new hilarious Super Bowl ad. Clocking in at 1 minute, the ad will cost Uber Eats a cool $14 million, and has garnered over 1 million views on YouTube since its release yesterday. You can view the commercial below:

Super Bowl Predictions By You
Despite a number of people writing in to emphatically declare their plans to skip the Super Bowl, it’s clear that many others are gearing up for the big game, whether it’s for the thrill of the football, the allure of the commercials, or the sheer entertainment value. Whether you watch the game or not, I’m inviting everyone to join in on some Super Bowl fun by making your own game predictions. The person who comes closest to predicting the exact final score will win a $25 Amazon gift card—a little added excitement to sweeten your game day experience (there will be a raffle in case of a tie). To kick things off, here’s my shot in the dark: I’m predicting the Kansas City Chiefs will triumph over the San Francisco 49ers in a nail-biting 33-31 final. Email me your predictions at team@baddogagility.com.

Groundhog Says Winter Is Over
Groundhog Day, observed on February 2nd, originated from Pennsylvania Dutch folklore. It centers around the idea that a groundhog, emerging from its burrow, can predict the coming of spring by observing its own shadow. According to legend, if the groundhog sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat back into its burrow, signifying six more weeks of winter; if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early. The most famous celebration takes place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, with Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, drawing thousands of visitors each year and inspiring one of my favorite movies of all time–Groundhog Day (released in 1993). Great news everyone: this past week, Punxsutawney Phil predicted that spring will arrive early!

Jennifer Crank’s Hi5 confirms that spring is coming early this year.

Remember to email me at team@baddogagility.com with your Super Bowl predictions or thoughts on dog agility seminars, and have a great week!
