Try these four handling variations for this exercise based on the #18 choice at the 2016 AKC National Agility Championship.
- Full Loop Wrap (4.46 seconds) – the most popular choice at the event, but may be the slower option
- Forced Front Cross (4.06 seconds) – creates the s-path, requires getting to the take off side of the backside jump, finishing dog on right reduces tunnel trap
- German Turn (4.10 seconds) – creates the s-path, does not require getting to the take off side of the backside jump, finishing dog on right reduces tunnel trap
- Serpentine (4.17 seconds) – creates the s-path, does not require getting to the take off side of the backside jump, finishing dog on left controls the turn but emphasizes the tunnel trap
Did you use 5′ poles on jump #2? Also, did you consider pushing to the back followed by a rear cross as demonstrated by Sky here.

Need to time your own dog. Mine has faster time with the German turn.
I think all the S-paths are fairly interchangeable. But I’d be surprised to see the full loop end up with the faster time.
Glad to see my gut choice was the fastest. It was cool seeing different options
Did you time the various options? They all look good.
We added the times to the article.
Thanks. I would have expected the German Turn to be faster than the Forced Front Cross. But maybe it depends on one’s proficiency with each of the options.
