New Year’s Resolutions: Yes or No?
Sarah here! Two years ago, we dove into the big question on our podcast: should you make or ditch New Year’s resolutions?
https://baddogagility.com/episode-316-make-or-ditch-new-years-resolutions/
There are solid arguments for both sides, and it really comes down to your own personality and mental strengths. Reflecting on how resolutions have helped (or hindered) you in the past can offer valuable insight. So, what’s your start-of-the-year game plan?
If you’re looking for some great ideas to level up in 2025, you’re in luck—Esteban has you covered.
Esteban’s Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions for Dog Agility People
- Rediscover the Joy of Agility
Take a step back and remember why you fell in love with this sport. Incorporate fun play sessions, silly games, or off-leash hikes to strengthen your bond with your dog outside of training. - Build Your Agility Network
Attend local trials or seminars even if you’re not competing, join agility-focused online groups, and exchange tips and experiences in smaller groups (both online and in person). You’ll generally find more improvement and enjoyment when you interact with other people. - Deepen Your Understanding of Your Dog’s Needs
Learn about your dog’s body language, preferred reinforcement types, and training styles that bring out the best in them. Over the years, I’ve learned that a truly tailored approach creates a great team. - Commit to Consistent Training Sessions
Schedule short, focused practices each week to build consistency and confidence with your dog. A little progress every day adds up to big results over time. - Give Back to the Agility Community
Volunteer at trials, mentor a newbie, become a judge, or help organize an event. Giving back enriches the entire community and may give you the spark you’re looking for.
