Hall of Famer
Big congratulations to our very own Jennifer Crank on her upcoming induction into the Watkins Memorial High School Hall of Fame! Jenn found out late last year and thought, surely they didn’t mean me—but yes, they absolutely did! As a 2005 graduate, she’s built an incredible career in dog agility, from competing at the highest levels to coaching and running IncrediPAWS—all in the same small town where she went to high school. Now, she’s being recognized alongside some amazing people, and we couldn’t be prouder. If you’ve trained with Jenn or listened to the podcast, you already know she’s one of the best in the game, and now her hometown is giving her the recognition she deserves. Congrats, Jenn!
Unstoppable
Did you know that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck remarried a few years ago? They’re divorced again, but during their two year reunion, they made the movie Unstoppable, which Sarah and I saw this week. We thoroughly enjoyed this inspiring sports drama that tells the true story of Anthony Robles, a wrestler born without his right leg who defied the odds to compete in the sport he loved. Actor Jharrel Jerome delivers a great performance as Robles, with Jennifer Lopez portraying his supportive mother, Judy. In an interview for Sharp magazine, Jerome talked about how training every day for 5 months and then shooting for “13-14 hour days, 5 days a week” changed him as a person.
I found myself wondering how they found a wrestler with one leg who acted so well, but it turns out that Jerome learned how to wrestle and use crutches for the movie and the filmmakers digitally removed his right leg in post-production. Jerome’s stunt double for some of the carefully choreographed wrestling scenes? Robles himself. The film has been well-received, becoming the number one movie on Prime Video. We thoroughly enjoyed “Unstoppable” and highly recommend it for its heartfelt portrayal of perseverance and triumph.
This week on the podcast, we tackled a big question: Should You Specialize? Can you truly excel in multiple agility venues, or is it better to focus on just one? We break down how different organizations—like AKC and UKI—offer different challenges, and even within AKC, how course designs vary between events like the Invitational, Westminster, Premier Cup, and FCI AWC Tryouts. With so many options available, competitors now have to be more strategic than ever in deciding where to invest their time and money. We also dive into how course design influences performance and how to make the best choice for you and your dog.

Blizzards in Texas
We are in the midst of a historic winter storm that has turned Houston into a winter wonderland! Unlike our friends up north, we don’t exactly have a playbook for handling snow and ice, so when this kind of weather hits, the entire Greater Houston area shuts down completely. Schools closed for two days, bridges became impassable, and agility equipment was buried in the snow.
The snow started falling on January 20 and kept coming through January 21, piling up to an unheard-of 3 inches in some spots. Major roadways iced over, making travel treacherous, but Houstonians made the most of it—sledding, snowball fights, and lots of pictures and videos of our dogs and kids!

VIDEO: Sarah took to the slopes–no front cross required here.
NAC Prep
We were fully prepared for this generational snowstorm—soup, water, and a generator—because at Bad Dog Agility, we believe in preparation! That’s why we’re excited to open registration for our AKC National Agility Championship Prep Course! Over the years, we’ve helped countless finalists and national champions fine-tune their skills. You’ll get scouting reports on the judges plus exercises based on actual courses they’ve designed, so you know exactly what to expect. And because the mental game is just as important, we’ve included a must-have primer on visualization to help you mentally rehearse your runs.
Even if you’re not competing at AKC Nationals, you’ll get huge benefits from this course—join me, Jenn, and Sarah and start 2025 off on the right foot! Or paw, I should have said paw.
